Indigenous peoples in Cambodia on 9 August 2018 marked the 24th anniversary of International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples in their respective areas. It is also the 14th celebration in Cambodia.
The Department of Indigenous Development in 2005 initiated the 10th organization of International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples, that was the first start in Cambodia, which mainly focused on conserving indigenous tradition and eliminating all forms of discrimination against indigenous peoples in Cambodia. In late August 2018, it will be the 14th celebration of the event organized by the in-charge department and peoples in Preah Vihear province. For the last three years, the head of Cambodian government, Prime Minister Hun Sen has issued letters and recommendations which fully support the organization of the indigenous peoples’ day and ordered sub-national ministries to pay more attention to solving the issues faced by the indigenous peoples to realize sustainable development.
